Vol.4 No.1  August 2003

Good god... it's a new issue of Sugar And Spite! Who'd have ever thought it! And yet another new format... as if you haven't realised by now, it's in wow-it's-the-future WEB form! Don't say I don't keep up with things! Just not as quickly as some.

I'm not gonna make each new "issue" massive, rather just a few choice pieces each time. Also, it's gonna cover all periods of the Damned and there's no intention of keeping everything current... http://www.officialdamned.com is where you go for that. So this issue we go from 2002, to 1994, to 1912... er, no hang on, that can't be right... to, well you get the picture.

First up we have a review of the Nottingham gig from late 2002... something to bring things nicely up to date(ish), and even better, something positive to say after the last printed issue coming out slap bang in the middle of the Damned being a bit of a farce. I didn't like ending on a negative note, so this evens the score.

Also, there's an Alan Lee Shaw interview that was done in December 1994. Now I realise that many people don't consider his songs as Damned songs, and don't consider that line-up as the Damned. But guess what? I don't care! Go and do yer own site wi yer own revised history if that's what you want! I still think some of the Not Of This Earth songs are excellent (and the gigs were great)... some are indeed a bit weak, but there's no doubt the album contains some crackers, and Alan was the man that wrote them. It must also be pointed out he's a Damned nice geezer.

As a wee pictorial interlude, here's the Best Of Bedroom (you know, the one on the inner of the Best Of The Damned LP/CD) updated for the new millennium.

After your brain has taken in so many Damned goodies in one place, how about taxing it even further with this poor-quality crossword! Fantastic prizes to be won!

And that's yer lot really! Tune in next time for yet another small installment! Things in the pipeline (okay, things left over from old issues!) include article on Damned TV appearances, article on Damned fanzines from over the years, plus whatever other gibberish I come up with. Yeah, I can't wait either!

Thanks to Alan Lee Shaw for the interview, and Woody for the pics.
