After many years of all but one issue of Sugar & Spite being unavailable, I figured it was time to move into the world of cyberspace and put some stuff on the web. It's been tempting to re-write some of it but I've decided to leave everything as is (with the exception of correcting some of the grammar) so it's a true representation of the zine. Some of it's quite embarrassing really, but fuck it! I'm still an embarrassment! Bear in mind that some of this stuff was written almost two decades ago though! (ie. gimme a fucking break!) One thing I did do was totally redesign the pages for the web... some of the early layouts were a bit dodgy, and of course now it's possible to use colour pictures, something way beyond the means of the original zine. In most cases I've used pics relevant to the article itself, or at least pics from up until the time of the article (ie. no pics from last year accompanying a review from 1986!). Also, wherever possible the pics are exclusive to this site... rather than the same old ones we've seen a million times before.  People with slow connections may find some pages take a while to load... sorry, but I wanted to use lots of the (literally) thousands of Damned pictures I have, plus connection speeds will get better over time.  I'm new to this web design lark, and the thought of doing pages that work perfectly on multiple platforms is too much! So bollocks to that! Also, it's designed to be viewed at 800x600... I spent fucking ages on (some of the!) layouts only to see 'em all over the place when viewed at different resolutions, so either use 800x600 or just imagine the layouts are perfect, heh heh. Oh yeah, set text size to "medium" while yer at it boyo! (I'm tempted to ask you to go and make me a cup of tea too... is that going too far?!)

Sugar and Spite has appeared on and off over the last 17 years, and no doubt it'll continue that way. There's still articles written for old zines that never got used, and there'll be also some new stuff written from time to time. So the site is gonna get numerous updates, as time and inspiration permits. Hopefully some more up to date stuff to cover the current line-up, which I  think is doing a fine job after a VERY shaky start (ie. before they got Pinch and started doing new material). Grave Disorder is an excellent album, so the current line-up deserves recognition. I can't deny that every time I've seen this current incarnation play that Rat has been sorely missed (not just the playing, as Pinch is a great drummer in his own right, but also the character...). I s'pose for me the Damned has always really been Dave, Cap and Rat, although I've very much enjoyed all the other line-ups. The politics of it all is neither here nor there... No One Is Innocent as Biggsy used to say. NO ONE!

So as long as I still love this band (ie. the current stuff... never gonna not like the "classic" years!) things will appear up on this 'ere site, so keep checking back to see what nonsensensical form that new stuff's taken. There's still quite a bit to add to the old issues if nothing else. Also look out for posts on the     Damned message board     when updates are done

Hope you enjoy all this lot, drop me a line if you've anything to say... Thanks to everyone who's helped out over the years, bought, borrowed or stolen an issue, written a letter, said hello at a gig... I love you all! (Well apart from a couple... you bastards!)

As pretty much every editorial in the old zines stated, if you don't like it, fuck off and do better yerself or shut yer trap!!

Thank you and goodnight.           Dave, August 2003.

Just ask okay?!  Same goes with the writing (though why you would want to use any of that is beyond me). Some pics are ones I was sent many years ago, and don't have any info on them... so if you see anything here that's your handy work, drop me a line and I'll credit you.
